Laketricity Japan Co, Ltd (Ciel & Terre International Group) developed two floating solar power plants and began selling electricity to Nakashin Ike, Hyogo Prefecture in September 2022 and Matsuo Tame Ike, Tottori Prefecture in April 2022.
Despite soaring prices for panels and other materials, as well as an unstable yen, Laketricity was able to successfully complete construction thanks to the cooperation of the local players involved.
The production details of the Nakashin Ike and Matsuo Tame Ike floating solar power plants
The Nakashin Ike power plant has a power generation capacity of 1,008 kWp and Matsuo Tame Ike power plant capacity is 2,664 kWp.
- Both projects are equipped with 540 W panels from the solar panel brand DMM.
- Nakashin project is expected to produce 1,227 MW/hour in its first year which is equivalent to the electricity production of around 263 households .
- Concerning Matsuo Tame Ike, the production expected in its first year is 3,022 MH/hour, equivalent to 600 households’ electricity production.
- In addition, the projects will respectively offset 580 and 1323 tonnes of CO2 equivalent if the electricity produced had been generated by non-renewable sources.
“These 2 projects are in coastal areas of the Chugoku Region where the space available between the mountains and the sea is very restricted. In this limited space, agriculture, industry and cities must cohabit and floating solar projects are a great way to produce energy while not conflicting with these various human activities.”
– Olivier Philippart, Deputy Managing Director in charge of Operations
